    • POEM: Ash Wednesday by Thomas Stearns Eliot (8/5/2005 11:55:00 AM)

The Ash Wednesday captures the moment of a mystic experience. A mystic experience is of a highly personalized nature. It is difficult for the language to grasp it fully. Eliot has drawn on creatural life to explain the nature of the experience. Three leopards sitting under a juniper tree, feeding on the body of the peot represent a willing surrendering to a spiritual domain. It would give the poet a satisfaction which he feels missing in the modern bizarre and sordid world.(Khurshid Alam, Lecturer English, The Punjab University, Lahore, Pakistan) .
