Iambic septameter! What a pleasant surprise! A good way with words, I especially liked the witty rhyme of lines 11-12, and verses 5-6 generally. In fact, the lines make it a sonnet! Even a little division between line 8 and 9, though there's no real volta.

But that's me rambling on converting this into a sonnet. I love it in the couplets, though; very fragmented - in the positive sense - and cute-sounding to the ear.

    A great write! Get a 10.

  • POEM: The Dream by Jonathan Howard (2/16/2006 4:07:00 PM)

Thank you! I used Coleridge as inspiration (partly) , and about 10 reviewers for it. Every word was checked, every caesura and syllable. Refined to mean what I want; thanks to them all.

  • POEM: A Prayer by Jonathan Howard (2/16/2006 4:06:00 PM)

Thank you! I'm actually abrasive at rhyming, as you may notice. This one just plopped-out well. But one thing I am glad about is being a metronome: the odd iambic PENTameter lines are very deliberate - they work on a higher level or rhythm throughout the last three verses. Not just accentual-syllabic, but some higher form, thanks to my senses. I just flowed with it.

One of my better works. I just keep rhyme because it sounds nice, but I have some blank-verse too. Might upload later...
