    • POEM: I Carry Your Heart With Me by Edward Estlin Cummings (8/12/2006 11:56:00 PM)

I have always loved this poem. I've studied e.e. cummings for 20 years and it's still one of my favorites. The feeling this piece has always given me is one of lovers apart, not together. One person letting that special someone know that they are not only loved, but not forgotten. They will stay with someone and be part of someone's life long after they part. I think it is more poignant than sad and one of the most moving love poems I've read. I don't think it's about becoming one person from two, but rather sharing how important one person can be to another. you don't use the word 'you' and 'i' if you aren't aware of two separate hearts. Kyogetsu, there are many ways to love, all of them important and meaningful. cummings just expressed one.
