    • POEM: I Carry Your Heart With Me by Edward Estlin Cummings (4/10/2007 9:22:00 PM)

I have never even heard of this movie, In Her Shoes. I first heard this poem in the art song set by American composer, John Duke. It is a beautiful setting. If anyone wishes to hear it, Ruth Ann Swenson recorded it on a CD by the same title, 'i carry your heart.' (EMI Records.1996. Warren Jones on piano) .
I agree that that the poem does not refer to two people becoming one, but more like saying a part of you is now a part of me, no matter what you do or where you go. It also says to me that love is the basis of all life - the root of a tree called life as well as the bud of that which flowers from it. (really, without loving, who's going to create families and new life to continue the population? We would die out.) Without love the stars would crash together. I love that line. I wish I understood it better...this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart...that's how powerful love is.
