    • POEM: Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou (10/12/2007 6:40:00 PM)

Simple, elegant poem but not even close to understanding the feminine mystique.
There is no spiritual aspect brought in. No doubt, it is clever and I like the refrain of 'phenomenal woman'. But to dub it number one on the list in the face of other great poems is really a disappointment to for 'poemhunter'. Please tell me how they are rated, by who, or is this the quality of our poets or readers? Maya is maya (the illusory energy in Sanskrit) . Well, she is a good poet...and deep in her own way...but really, she doesn't pack the punch of a Bukowski or a ee cummings poem...Number One? Maybe number best...I am a curious now...I am going to see who is number 500...

    • POET: Oscar Wilde (10/12/2007 6:26:00 PM)

Wilde cryptic word spinning to somewhere in nowhere.
He was no genius, a bewildered poet who thought he was a genius.
Did the poem liberate him or anyone from its cage of flowery words bespeckled with Greek gods and goddesses?
I tend to doubt it. A love for his own intellect, displayful of a pruriant pride in pining.

    • POEM: Love Is A Place by Edward Estlin Cummings (10/10/2007 10:55:00 PM)
