    • POEM: The Horses by Edwin Muir (11/18/2007 8:00:00 PM)

This poem reminded me of a quote by Albert Einstein; 'I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.' I agree that humans will eventually build up such powerful weapons that when a war comes, The whole planet will suffer horribly. However, I disagree with the idea that once it is over, the people will not try to go back to the way they were before. Humans will naturally try to make life easier and therefore develop technology. This pursuit of technology will allow certain people to develop weapons again, and it will be repeated all over. Apart from this, I found the poem to be well worded and its meaning clearly conveyed. The whole poem seemed to be symbolic on its own because of the many symbols used in it. To me the narrators almost seem like they believe that they are better than the people from the past because they think that they will not make the same mistakes as their ancestors. I do not believe it.
