This is a very sad poem, reflecting the deep grief within the poet's heart. It sounds like a cry for help, and I pray she gets help before it is too late.

Suicide may seem like the answer, but that's a lie straight from the enemy. A friend of mine, also named Dawnna, took her own life just two days ago. She removed herself from the lives of her two children, and now their pain is just beginning. Each day they wake up, hoping that this has just been a very bad dream. But it is real, and the reality will be there tomorrow, and the next day and the next day and the day after that. Forever. Dawnna is gone, and those who loved her are left behind to grieve.

For each one of us who has ever loved a 'Dawnna'... someone in pain who does not realise his or her self-worth - please let them know you love them. Be patient and kind when you see they are hurting. Take a risk and reach out.

To my friend Dawnna: I wish I had known you better. I wish I'd known you were hurting and felt so alone. You had so much to offer the world... you were bright and funny. You loved your family and were proud of them. I know that you didn't mean to hurt them, but your pain made it impossible to see beyond what you were feeling. I loved you, Dawnna. I wish I had told you. I wish I had shown it more.

To the Poet, Dawnna: I pray that God will give you sunny spots in your days, and will ease your pain. I pray that your future poetry will be of light and life. God bless.
